Routines

Happy Thursday Conejo Family! How are you holding up? Are your mornings and evenings settling into a routine yet? I’m not quite there myself but I’m getting closer. Routine brings a sense of calmness to my life that I’m longing for these days after summer with very little routine.

At church, I teach the youngest group of children. Every 6 to 8 weeks, I change out the program we are doing in class and I disrupt the routine we have established to start a new one. Currently, we are learning about Samuel as a boy. The activities in this program are difficult at best and the first week I taught it, I decided it wasn’t going to work with the group of children in my class. However, I changed my mind during the week and resolved to give it a try for at least one more week. Week two was a little more successful and now we are up to the sixth week and the class anticipates what is coming next and joyfully moves on to the next activity. Yay! It would have been much easier for me to give up after the first week but I’m so glad I didn’t. Had I given up, I would have robbed my class of kids the opportunity to learn a new routine, to do something new and difficult, and to develop a sense of accomplishment. It wasn’t easy but it was so rewarding for my little ones and for me. Perseverance pays off and gives us the opportunity to grow in new ways and develop new skills.

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good (and what seems impossible at the moment – Mrs. Lew’s addition). At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 NLT
