Time is such an interesting concept. Days, weeks, months, years…they can seem quick and yet sometimes drag on forever. This week is one of those slow but speedy ones. On Monday, my husband left for a 20-something-day backpacking trip with his sister. They had planned to hike the John Muir Trail for her 50thbirthday but fires cancelled their plans a week or so ago. Since they had been making plans and already had their food supply ready to go, they were able to reroute the trip and now have several different hikes to replace their original plans. Also on Monday, my son left for his senior year at La Sierra University after being home for the last 18 months for online classes. By Tuesday, it seemed like weeks had gone by to me. But now Thursday has arrived and I can’t believe it is almost the weekend.

On Sunday, I’ll be driving out to La Sierra University to drop off my daughter to begin her freshman year. Talk about time going quickly. Right now, I’m recalling the morning we dropped her off at preschool (before we had our own preschool on campus) for the first time. She marched right into her classroom with her pink polka dot backpack and bid us good-bye. This weekend is the beginning of a new chapter for my husband and I, but since he isn’t home currently, I’m going to say a new chapter for me. The next couple of weeks, it will be just Howard (my dog) and me at home. Strange. It will be quiet. It will be different. I’ll let you know how it goes…
