Happy End of Spring Break Conejo Family! Are you ready for Monday? To be completely honest with you, I’m not sure how I feel about Monday and the start of “school” again. I’m guessing your children are a little anxious and probably eager too. All of us are starting on a new journey together. Will it be easy? Maybe. Will it be difficult? Maybe. Will it be different? Absolutely. Our only given is it will be different. So, what can we do?
First, relax. Mrs. Tassy shared an article about crisis schooling with me. This is crisis schooling we are about to tackle, not homeschooling. You did not choose homeschooling for your children. We did not choose to teach remotely. However, we are determined to connect with your children and continue to empower them to be responsible for their learning. We are not expecting you to become teaching experts overnight. Relax. Empower your children. They will rise to the occasion.
Second, relax. Take advantage of this time at home with your children. Play a game, read a story, tell a story, take a walk, share a song, talk about your childhood, set a goal, write a story, paint a picture, clean a closet, wash the dog…pause and just be.
Third, relax. None of us control the universe, not even a tiny part of the universe. We do control our reactions though. Our children feel our stress and anxious thoughts. I would never suggest you burden a child with your thoughts of stress and anxiety, but I do think it is healthy to discuss your thought process of dealing with stress and anxiety with your child. If you have tools to share with your child, share them. Their world has completely changed in the last few weeks, and it can be seen as scary and stressful and something to navigate alone, or as an unknown adventure and a journey to take together.
Here we go. Our new adventure begins Monday. You are not alone.
When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations delight my soul. Psalms 94:19 NASB
