Christmastime is here!

Christmas time is here, happiness and cheer…does a tune come to mind when you read those words? I can hear children’s voices singing slightly off key and see cartoon drawings with noses pointed up and open mouths. A Charlie Brown Christmas Album is one of my favorite soundtracks ever. The songs evoke happiness, nostalgia, and hope in my mind. The perfect backdrop for decorating a Christmas tree, baking Christmas treats, setting up a Nativity scene, or visiting with family and friends. This Christmas, much like Thanksgiving, might look a little different but those warm fuzzy Christmas feelings still appear when I hear my favorite Christmas tunes.

My December days for the last 20-something years have been filled with preparing for a Christmas concert and making sure my kids know all their lines and the lyrics for each song. I’m not missing the pressure of preparing for such a concert, but I am sorely missing the sound of children’s voices lifted in song. I’m missing the joy on children’s faces when they master their speaking lines and learn how to pass the microphone to the next person. I’m missing the anticipation of listening to NPAA’s Christmas concert and closing the evening with Peace, Peace, Silent Night. I’m missing many things this year but I know anything I’m missing is only temporary. Today, I’m going to choose to be thankful for a God who never changes and whose promises are not temporary. And then I’m going to push the Play button…Christmas time is here, happiness and cheer…

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."  Isaiah 9:6 NIV
