What a beautiful day to celebrate being alive! I’m filled with a lot of emotions on this Thursday morning. As I’m writing, Gerritt is probably preparing for surgery and my heart wishes he were headed out for a day of fun with his 8th grade class instead of being in a hospital. If I were a 2nd grader, I would say, “That’s not fair.” Actually, no doubt we all would say, “That’s not fair.” Life is rarely fair but life is life and how we react to the circumstances and events that happen to us and around us can shape the outcome of those unfair moments.
The Beatty family is such an inspiration to me. Gerritt is living a completely unfair life right now, but he is a witness to God’s grace and love. The Beatty’s continue to live everyday as a gift and have chosen to live in gratitude instead of bitterness. In the lower grades, we talk a lot about glitches, bummers, and disasters. Gerritt’s accident could easily fall into the disaster category, but this family has downgraded a disaster into a bummer. It is a bummer Gerritt is not with his class right now, but he will be soon. It is a bummer he will have to finish up his algebra class at a later date, but praise God he is able to return to school and continue learning. It is a bummer he must endure another surgery, but what a miracle to have qualified surgeons and prosthetic skulls to replace missing pieces. I can’t emphasize how much this family has inspired me this year. Thank you, Beatty Family, for celebrating the gift of life instead of dwelling on the unfairness of this world. Thank you for operating from a mindset of abundant blessings.
Have a blessed end to your week Conejo Family! Celebrate life today and every day.
This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. Psalms 118:24 NLT
